My Ferrets
My ferrets Foxy, Nibbler and Monsta live with, 4 fish, 1 hamster (Bert) and a garden full of wild birds and squirrels. My partner and I have put together this site to share our experiences of ferret ownership
Foxy was my first ferret, I chose to have a ferret due to working full time and I couldn't commit to having a dog. I have had a tortoise and 5 little mice in the past and wanted to progress to something different. I was introduced to 4 lovely little ferrets at a friends house and was convinced these were the pets for me.
I bought Foxy from a working breeder, I chose a male polecat as I thought the colour was gorgeous, his mum was very friendly and all his family were very sweet. I picked him up at about 2 months of age and I have never regretted it but it has been hard work and expensive (I've neutered £30, vaccinated £30, flea treated him £12 and bought him £10).
Nibbler came along about 6 months later, I decided Foxy might be a bit lonely and need a ferret playmate as well as a human pair. A girl was chosen just as a girlfriend for Fox, I applied to the RSPCA to rehome a rescue ferret. I was offered a choice of 2 strays, a white girl and a polecat girl so I had to plump for the polecat. Nibbler is of similar age to Fox and came neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped (not bad for £20). Her name was chosen before we found her and she has certainly lived up to her name, nibbling shoes, fingers, hands, crisps and Foxy.
Foxy and Nibbler are now both a year old and even though I got nibbler at anolder age she has settled in perfectly. They both live in their two tier ferret hutch in my garden in the summer and my garage in the winter. I have them in an outdoor run in the sun or an indoor hutch out of the rain while cleaning them out. They have the run of my living room in the evening and sometimes my hallway but I have to protect the doors as they can open them. One day they will have their very own shed to live and play in.Monsta was the last ferret to join the family, read my ferret diary to see how she joined us.
