Choose Your Ferret Colour
There are many different colours and patterns of ferrets and different hair lengths. Depending on where you get your fert from can depend on how easily available each colour is. Also these colours are not as clear or defined as the books might say. The colours also depend on age, season as they have a summer and winter coat and on health.
- Polecat / Sable - range from brown to black with a cream undercoat. Have a robbers mask over the eyes.
- Silver - charcoal or silvery grey with silvery colours around the eyes.
- Black Sable - very dark and appears black, undercoat of white almost doesn't show through.
- Albino - white upper and lower with pink eyes.
- Dark eyed white - same coat as albino but has dark eyes, can be prone to deafness.
- Cinnamon - reddish brown to blonde with black, red or ruby eyes.
- Chocolate - chocolate brown colour with creamy under.
There are also various patterns.
- Mitts - have had their paws dipped in white.
- Hooded or Banded - band over the eyes or continues over the head.
- Siamese - have eye rings and a line or zipper running down the underside.
- Panda - have white head, belly and feet.
- Shetland, Badger and Blaze patterns also exist.
You will have noticed that all of my ferrets are polecat coloured.
