Why Choose a Ferret

Why We Love Ferrets

Ferrets sleep for up to 18 hours a day, so unlike many other pets they can be left all day while you are at work. They can live indoors or outdoors depending on how much room you have and can manage with only around 2 hours playtime a day.

Ferret play includes walking on their harness, free running round your living room and playing in their run. Two ferrets might be better than one depending on how much time you have to play with your little monster.

Handling and training is an essential part of having a fert as the more they are handled properly and taught the more docile they will be and you will be nibbled less.

Ferrets can be expensive pets, just like any others. Housing, bedding, food, toys and vet bills all add up. If you are going to buy a young ferret then neutering is needed, yearly Distemper vaccinations and frequent flea treatment are also required.

You also need to make sure the areas you are considering allowing your ferts to run free in are monster proof! They dig, jump on and over, climb, can open doors, nibble everything, hide all your precious things and get into the most impossibly small holes you can think of so board up any holes and don't let them get into your sofa!

If you are after a fun, playful time consuming pet that will amuse and torment you and you are willing to train it, a ferret might be for you. Ferrets live for around 6 - 10 years sometime longer.
