Monsta had a play in the run while I cleaned her out in the afternoon before she had ham for dinner. In the evening she had a play in the front room, her indoor toilet training is getting better. Monsta is now going in the right corner but is not always on the paper.
Day 22 Cake
Breakfast and dinner of ham and dry ferret food was given in a mini pot, not a bowl for interest. During her run in the house Monsta was given some coconut cake crumbs as a treat which she loved and tried to hide all round the room.
Day 23 Kong
Another rainy day so while I cleaned Monsta out before breakfast I had to put her in the travel box. Her breakfast of dry ferret food was given in a rubber Kong with no meat just for a change. In the evening Monsta and Nibbler had a run together in the house, they did play and fight together but Monsta is still scared of Nibbler but it went better than before.
Day 24 Wash day
Monsta had a play in the run while I cleaned out her whole hutch with disinfectant. I gave her new bedding and washed her old. Her breakfast was ferret food topped off by cat food in a Kong. As a treat she was given dried banana, cat treats and half a dental stix. In the evening she had a run in the house where her toilet training was spot on, right in the middle of the paper. We also clipped her nails, by distracting her with a small saucer of FerreTone (Skin and coat supplement, with vitamins and fatty acids). We call this ferret drugs as they are all addicted to this stuff, and will do anything for it!
Day 25 Bonfire Night
Had an afternoon play in the house, then a sleep after.
Dinner was covered in Ferretone before bed time to avoid the fireworks.
Day 26 Begging
Chicken was on the menu today. In the evening I taught Monsta to
Beg for treats, this involves standing on her hide legs. It’s just a trick for her to know and an easy way for her to earn a treat. Monsta has now lost her summer coat; she is much paler and has lost her chocolate robbers mask.
Day 27 Fishy day
Tried her with white fish cat food which she ate, thought this might be different for her. In the evening I tried to get Monsta to beg and she did it first time I asked her to so she is a very quick learner.
Day 28 Going away
I cooked some chicken drumsticks for the three of them to share for dinners as a treat while I went away. Before I left to drive to Evesham I gave Monsta her dinner and gave her a whole dental stix.
Day 29 The Other Half is in charge!
He had to clean her out and give Monsta her breakfast and dinner. Had cat food with turkey and duck for dinner but she wasn’t very impressed so didn’t eat it all, she wont have to have that again. Monsta had a run in the evening for an hour and has completely got the hang of begging. Also her toilet training is progressing and she is being rewarded when she gets it right.
Day 30 Home again
A new kong was given for breakfast full of treats, fruit, and ferret food all topped off with cat food, she enjoyed this and ate everything. Monsta had a run in the evening and I gave her a cuddle as soon as I got home from Evesham before bed time.
Day 31 Final instalment
I cleaned her out totally while she was playing in the run and I gave her new bedding to sleep in and washed her old. Before putting her back in her hutch I hid some treats in a box for her to find later. I had to put her in the carry case while I cleaned her out in the afternoon as it was raining. For dinner she had cat food and then came and had a run and a play in the house for an hour before being put to bed.
Monsta has been a great addition to our little clan. I am disappointed that we haven’t been able to successfully integrate Monsta in with Nibbler and Foxy but we will keep trying. She has grown and matured, been spayed and vaccinated, been introduced to many new foods, toys and hidey holes to play in. Her toilet and biting training have improved only to get better and she is a joy to play with. I am also hoping to introduce her to wearing a harness so I can take her for walks in the garden and around the block.
I have seen her mum and siblings while I was in Evesham again at the end of a month of having Monsta. Mum is still tiny but the boy is very large and even the girl has fattened up just as Monsta has, they even have a lovely new enclosure to climb around and play in.
